About This Course:
Smartsafe: Women’s Empowered Self-Defense is a reality-based self-defense system that addresses the most common real-life situations that women may encounter. Smartsafe is bio-mechanically designed to enable the smaller person to increase her chances of surviving a situation.
The system addresses rape defense, abduction, choking, gun disarming, car jacking, knife defense, ground survival, and strikes.
A female instructor teaches this course.
This introductory course will cover the following topics:
- Situational Awareness
- Survivor mentality
- Adrenaline Dump
- Cooper’s Codes of Alertness
- Striking, kicking and kneeing
- Pressure points
Specific situational scenarios and techniques covered in this course:
- Surprise Grab Escape
- Grabbed from behind
- Hair Pull from behind
- Aggressive Slap Defense
- Slap to the face
- Back handed slap
- Choking on the ground
You will leave this course with a greater understanding of what happens in an aggressive confrontational scenario, how to become more aware, proficiency in self-defense techniques and greater self-confidence in being able to defend yourself.
You do not need previous experience.
This course is open to women and girls 12+ (with parent consent).
This course is a prerequisite for all other Smartsafe courses.

We will be meeting at the Johnson County Park in Nineveh Indiana. (Some GPS systems will show it in Edinburgh.) We will be in the MAPLES Building which is located on the corner of 32nd Street and Harrison Road.
Direction from the North:
Coming down I-65 get off at the Edinburgh Exit 80
Head West on 252
Stay on 252 through town until you come to Hwy 31
Continue STRAIGHT through the stoplight. IMPORTANT NOTE: 252 turns and goes North. Once you go across 31 you will be on CR 800 South (also known as Hospital Road).
Continue past the Golf Course on the North side of the road. Start slowing after you pass the golf course. You will see signs for Johnson County Park and Hoosier Horse Park.
Turn Right (North) on CR 325 East (also known as Schoolhouse Road).
Continue toward the middle of the park. The road you want to look for is 32nd street. Turn Left and follow it to the building on your left. Just North of the turn is a large cellular tower. This will let you know you went about 100 yards to far.
Direction from the South
Coming up I-65 get off at the Edinburgh Exit 76
Head North on Hwy 31.
You will pass a CVS and Jaycee supermarket on your right after about 2 miles. Come to the next stoplight after you do. You will see signs for Camp Atterbury
Turn Left (West) on CR 800 South (also known as Hospital road)
Continue past the Golf Course on the North side of the road. Start slowing after you pass the golf course. You will see signs for Johnson County Park and Hoosier Horse Park.
Turn Right (North) on CR 325 East (also known as Schoolhouse Road).
