Rope Rescue Operations

About This Course:

This course is designed to develop the knowledge and skills necessary for basic rope operations during a search and rescue or disaster mission. We explore the fundamentals for using ropes as life safety and life rescue operations.

For those who want to advance in Search and Rescue, Swiftwater, or Disaster Technical Rescue this course will allow you to take your skills to the next level.

Practical applications of the skills taught can be applied to life around the home, the farm, or the campsight.

Equipment Required:

Life safety helmet. SAR or Swiftwater Helmets ARE acceptable. Hard Hat is NOT.

Hiking, Climbing, or equivelant lace up shoes. Tennis shoes are NOT recommended.

Close fitting leather gloves with full fingers such as Mechanixwear gloves. Loose leather work gloves will NOT work.

Physical Requirements:

This is a physical course and does require you to be able to lift yourself up steep inclines, walk up multiple flights of stairs, pull ropes, etc. You don't have to be a bodybuilder, but if you get winded walking to your bedroom or have a difficult time lifting a bucket of paint you might want to get into shape.

This course will give you the Rope Rescue Certificate from the National Association of Professional Rescuers. This course meets FEMA and NFPA 1006-2017 guidelines.

This is a multi-track course. Awareness, Operations, and Technician Levels are offered side by side. Awareness and Operations do not need to meet the pull-up physical requirement but will need to meet the run, push-up, and sit-up requirement.

This course will run from 7pm until late on Friday night. Saturday will be from 9am until 5-6pm. Sunday will be from 9am until approximately 5pm.

Lodging is available both nights in a dormitory setting (segregated for male/female) for $40 each night. Students should bring twin bedding (or sleeping bag), pillow, and shower towels/washcloth.
