    Course Description

This course is will teach you how to be proactive in your outdoor readiness.  Whether you are someone who likes to hike, hunt, or are part of a Search and Rescue Team, being able to afield safely starts before you ever leave.

This course will teach you the mindset and skills to survive, and includes an in-depth look at what tools work, what tools don’t, and what tools are worth carrying.

The course is designed for participants of all skill levels and all physical capabilities.  This is not a SERE type extreme survival course.  This course will however give you practical and useful skills you can apply immediately to better your chances of surviving and being found should you get trapped outside for whatever reason.

If you are a member of a Search and Rescue Team this will help you pass the NASAR SARTECH 2 / 1 Examination.

Wilderness Survival Skills will focus on:

    • Principals of survival
    • Maintaining Body Temperature
    • Shelter Construction
    • Fire Starting and Maintaining
    • Water and Food
    • Reducing Risk and Fear
    • What Tools Work Best
    • Increasing Chances for Rescue

    Equipment Needed:

You are welcome to bring whatever you want that can fit in a backpack you can carry.  This course is designed to simulate what you would have with you on a deep woods hunting or hiking adventure, or what you would have with you in a Search and Rescue pack.

    The following items are recommended:

    • Small water bottle or canteen
    • Water purification straw, filter, or tablets
    • Food / Snacks (MRE or Hiker’s Food is best)
    • Survival Knife
    • 50 feet of 550 paracord
    • Good hiking boots
    • Long sleeves and long pants
    • Wool Blanket
    • Snare Wire
    • Flint and striker
    • Lighter
    • Whistle
    • Small Tent or Tarp
    • Ground Pad, Bivy Sack, Sleeping Bag, etc.

    • Basic First Aid Kit (band-aids, blister pads, etc)
    • Headlamp / Flashlight / Extra Batteries
    • Bug Spray / Sunscreen
    • Personal Toiletries including toilet paper
    • Plastic Trash Bag
    • A camp chair will be handy and is not required to be in your pack (you can leave it in the car)

It is NOT required you have everything on the list, but you MUST be prepared to stay outside for the full duration of the course.  You are welcome to leave extra water/food, etc in your car but try and pack like you would for hiking trip.  You will have access to your vehicle for the course duration.

If you have multiple types of the same item and want to find out what works best, pack one item and leave the other item in your vehicle.  You can then swap out during the course based on what you learn.

Again, this course is as much about learning / testing gear as it is about other skills.

If you are missing items or need gear recommendations please contact us.

    About This Course:

Many people think they know how to operate a rifle and shoot accurately. For most, this has included taking their rifle to a range and shooting at paper targets until they could consistently hit a bull’s-eye. However, this is NOT fighting with your rifle. Can you rapidly deploy your rifle in a stressful situation, clear any malfunctions, and make successful hits all within 3 seconds?
If you are new to the AR platform, or have only used it for target practice, this is a vital course. This a basic level course, but even more experienced weapon operators will gain additional experience in using the weapon for defensive situations.

This course covers proper stance and grip, and covers topics such as point-of-aim versus point-of impact, various methods to sight your rifle, reloads, and weapon malfunctions. Discussion will include different optics, slings, and other rifle accessories.

    Required Equipment:

Good quality magazine fed weapon (AR platform in 5.56/.223, 9mm, 6.8spc, etc.)

Approximately 100 rounds of rifle ammunition

    Rifle Sling

2 extra rifle magazines and a method to carry those magazines

If there is something you do not have, inform us in advance and we can arrange for you to borrow.

All participants should bring ear and eye protection and dress appropriately for the weather.

We do have AR rifle’s available for rental including ammunition (Please Inquire for current prices).

    About This Course:

The shotgun is one of the most misunderstood weapon systems, but also one of the most versatile. While many people have used a shotgun to hunt, or to shoot cans, proper utilization in a defensive situation is much different. Ammunition selection, how to change ammunition mid fight, strengths and limitations, extra shell placement, are all things that must be considered to get the most out of the weapon. We will cover various techniques for deploying the shotgun in different scenarios to allow the operator to get the most out of this tool. If you are considering having a shotgun as part of your home defense plan, or you are a patrol officer who wants to get better at its utilization, this is a vital course for you. Regardless of how many rounds you have fired at your local range or while hunting, you will learn how to use your shotgun in real world situations.

    Equipment Required:

    • Tactical shotgun, pump or automatic, gauge does not matter

    • Method to carry extra shells (Side saddle preferred… stock saddle, sling strap, belt pouch, etc are all fine).

    • 50 rounds of number 7 or 8 birdshot

    • 10 rounds of 00 buckshot

    • 5 rounds of slugs.

    • Ear and Eye protection

If you do not have a weapon, you can use one of ours (simply pay for the ammunition).

    About This Course:

During Threat Avoidance Operations Level 1 you gained knowledge of the way a car will handle, and how to work with various forces acting upon the vehicle to position it where you want / need. This course will take those skills, push them to the next level, and add in additional skills should another vehicle require you to make contact. This could be due to you needing to stop a fleeing subject, or it could be so you can maintain proper control of your vehicle when an assailant is attempting to force you off the road.

This is a “contact” course. Vehicles will make contact under controlled circumstances to insure you are able to maintain total command of your vehicle while affecting the path of other vehicles.

    Course Description:

This course is the second in a series of Precision Rifle Marksmanship. This course will provide the knowledge for students to be capable of collecting data on their weapon, optic, and ammunition, and using that data for accurate future shots. The focus is for the student to understand Minute of Angle, mils, and how those are applied in rifle marksmanship. Understanding this is essential when attempting to get 1st or 2nd round hits at varying, long distances, as well as accurate, quick re-engagements. Firing will be 100-500 yards but also dependent on students’ weapon system capability; attention will be primarily on accurate data collection rather than stretching the distance.

    Material Covered

    • Quick refresher on material covered in PRM-101
    • Ballistics, MOA, and Mils
    • Zeroing and zero confirmation
    • Basic Data Collection; no data book required, notebook and pencil will work fine for now
    • Mil hold off; optic with mil or MOA reticle required

    Material NOT Covered

    • Alternate firing positions; all firing will be from most stable, for most accurate data collection
    • In-depth data collection; data book entry, shot calls, etc
    • Stress shoots or dynamic drills

    Equipment Required:

    • Rifle with sling (.223/5.56 and above recommended but not required. Recommended to use same rifle from PRM-101 due to custom configuration to shooter)
    • Optic with a Mil or MOA reticle (required for Mil hold off)
    • 2 Magazines
    • Magazine carry method for at least 1 spare magazine
    • Approximately 200 rounds of ammunition (Match Grade Preferred)

    About this Course:

This is a combination handgun / empty-hand FIGHTING course. You will learn how to use your handgun in the overall scheme of a violent encounter. Remember, in the real world, "gunfights" aren't common, in reality they will be a "fight with a gun". This course will better prepare you to deal with that reality.

Often the hardest evaluation one can do is that of yourself. Of ones own competency.

Owning a firearm. Something millions can claim. Being a competent shooter. Many will claim that, yet only a fraction of them are, in fact, competent shooters. The difficult question is where on the matrix of competency as a shooter and as a fighter with the Firearm do YOU stand…

This is about Matrix. Actually, about more than just one. This is about self evaluation. Self reflection. Re-calibration. This is about charting out a highly customized, accurate, relevant and objective matrix of what you are.

And it is of crucial importance to each and everyone – to know what you are as a shooter, gunfighter, fighter on a more wholesome scale, and more- so that we can determine not only what we want to train, but more importantly – what we actually need to learn and train. To figure all this out, we need to think. Objectively, using raw data.

This course takes the path of first defining where each student stands as a shooter and as a fighter with the gun. Through thoughtfully designed drills, each student will be able to diagnose individual issues and problem areas. Drills gradually and progressively will take students from the square one way range shooting realm into a much more complex and chaotic realm of a gunfight.

Attributes and components of the distinct stages of actions within the gunfight will be introduced in order to not only evaluate and diagnose, but to expose dogmatic habits that impede ones ability to fight.

In two intense days of learning and training, each student will be able to gather enough raw data and relevant results to be able to quantify his/her own competency as a shooter and as a gunfighter.

Along with diagnostics and charting competency, relevant and practical suggestions related to both shooting and gunfighting, how and why “fighting” affects shooting, and a lot more, will be given individually to each student.

    Topics:

    • Safety, rules principles.
    • Charting your competency as a shooter and as a gunfighter.
    • Components of shooting:
    • Accuracy
    • Speed
    • Weapon handling
    • Consistency
    • Components of gunfighting:
    • Moving
    • Malfunctions from the vantage point of a gunfight.
    • Shooting while moving: Let’s move away from the dogmas.
    • Ambidexterity: The other half of you.
    • Vision: The what, the why, the how.
    • Mindset: What is it?
    • Putting it all together.
    • How to train.

    Equipment required:

    • Handgun and holster
    • Extra magazines and holster
    • 500 rounds of ammunition
    • Comfortable clothes
    • Eye and Ear protection

    Note:

This is mentally and physically challenging class. It’s purpose is learning, not just training.

If you are not familiar with Sonny's courses, you should expect a challenge to your mind, your perspectives, and your body. They are physical if you want to get the maximum benefit. You are welcome to sit out any of the exercises that are too intense for your comfort, injury, or physical fitness.

    Pre-requisites:

Defensive Handgun Level 1 or equivalent

You must have SUPERIOR safe weapon handling understanding of how the 3 intertwine (muzzle discipline, trigger discipline, weapon status). Each of the 3 will be challenged taking you out of your comfort zone and to show you how it is the 3 together which causes issues.

    About This Course:

Have you ever been sitting across from someone and just had this feeling the words you were hearing wasn’t telling you the full story?  Ever tried to have a conversation but you felt like you just weren’t getting through to the other person?

Many times there is an internal dialogue going on inside people but for whatever reason they aren’t using their words to tell you the full story.  It could be they are trying to be deceitful, they may be holding a secret, they could be embarrassed, or they could simply just not be interested.

As participants of the SRE-1 course have learned, the Limbic system of the brain is much harder to control than our voices.  As such, we “leak” nonverbal clues to our internal thoughts, and that leakage manifests itself in our body language.  Knowing how to interpret that body language can help you be more successful communicators by understanding the real story.

    Topics Covered:

Recognizing the proper baseline based on environment

    Discovering deception

    Getting past verbal barriers

    Recognizing fake versus real expressions

Using your own body language to broadcast subtle but powerful messages

    Pre-requisites:

    None

    Equipment Required:

    Notepad and Pen

    Notes:

This is NOT the same course as SRE-1 although they will be perfect complimentary courses.  SRE-1 is looking at groups with limited amount of time.  This course goes deep into one-on-one or small group settings where you are engaged in communication.

    About This Course:

If you carry a weapon for self-defense, you need to know how that weapon will perform in a real fight. If you are wounded, you best know the realities of your wound.

Many myths surround firearms, knives, impact weapons, and bare fists. The realities are often far different. Understanding and being able to visualize human anatomy during a violent encounter will allow you a better ability to survive those encounters.

Taught by a medical doctor, this training will allow you to neutralize your attacker more effectively, reducing your own risk and the risk of those you want to protect.

    Topics Covered:

    • Ballistics in the human body

    • Vulnerable regions of the body and the methods to target these areas

    • Understanding of physiology and anatomy

    • Incapacitation and immobilization

    • Myths vs. Realities

    • Bullets vs. Blades vs. Batons

    • Simulated 3D targeting with simunition/airsoft

    Equipment Required:

All equipment will be provided. If participants want to bring their own safety and training gear they are welcome.

    • Airsoft pistol (CO2 version)

    • Holster for Airsoft Pistol

    • Face mask

    • Soft training knives, ASP batons, etc.

Due to the nature of this course no live weapons will be allowed in the training facility during the simulated targeting portion. All participants will be subject to search and pat-down prior to entering onto the range.

    Prerequisites:

    None

    Notes:

Applicable to all skills levels who have a general comfort with weapons. The course is ideal for concealed carry citizens, police officers, or other first responders who may encounter potentially violent individuals.

    About This Course:

The AR-15/10 platform is one of the most popular rifles in existence today. With years of advances, it has become a highly reliable, accurate, and customizable platform. Primarily thought of as a combat weapon used in military, law enforcement, or personal defense situations, recent changes in hunting laws have seen it become popular in deer stands, hunting pigs, and blasting prairie dogs.

While saying you have an "AR" gives a basic idea of what you own, there are thousands of variations you can actually have. From the concealed carry 9 mm pistol version, to the .308 squad automatic sniper rifle, to the .50 Beowulf, there are close to a dozen different caliber choices. 8" barrels up to 24" barrels, different twist rates, different barrel thickness, low profile gas blocks, piston driven, free float rails, enhanced triggers, etc are all decisions you need to face when choosing an AR.

This course will teach you to fully disassemble your AR, trouble shoot any issues, customize any parts, and re-assemble.

    Equipment Required:

An AR Armorers set is very valuable for this course. We will have limited tools available to borrow.

We recommend a kit like the essentials kit available from Brownells: https://tinyurl.com/yblhoa9j You do NOT need the professional kit.

If you want to get by with the basics and borrow our tools, we recommend a small punch set, a small hammer, and a small plastic or rubber mallet.

    Prerequisites:

    None.

Open to ages 14 and up when parent attends.

    Note:

Due to ATF regulations, you may not assemble a new AR during this course. You can disassemble it at home and bring all the parts you need to re-assemble it, even in a different configuration. Please contact us with any questions.

    About this Course:

This course is part 1 of the Sidney Reilly Experience

A master spy needs to know how to maintain environmental awareness. But just knowing what is going on around you is not enough. You have to be able to read the clues and predict what may be coming. Are you in safe, or do certain clues help you see what could become a very dangerous situation?

In addition to reading the situational awareness, you need to be able to read people, often from a distance. Can you tell who may be out of place in the room without looking at facial features or clothing? Not just to predict threats, but to spot potential allies, potential obstacles, etc. You need to be able to walk in a room and know if something goes wrong, who might be able help you as much as who might be there to hurt you.

The skills learned in this course will help prepare you to excel in the later courses in the series.

This course will cover the following topics:

    • Increasing Overall Situational Awareness

    • Reading and Interpreting the Baseline

    About This Course:

Active Shooter Situations can happen anywhere. Schools, Malls or Nightclubs.

Police will respond, but in the meantime how many deaths will occur? If your child, spouse, or loved one is in the path of gunfire, will you respond to stop the killing?

Having the will to confront the shooter is one thing, but doing so in a way that you prevent innocent deaths, including your own takes a specific skill set. Knowing what to do when law enforcement does arrive is vital. The 540 degree principal, threshold evaluation, movement toward threat, and friendly link-up are just some of the skills you will learn in this training.

We will start with an understanding of where these events might occur, how to respond, and end with force-on-force drills to let you practice each skill.

If you are a CCW holder and routinely carry your weapon, this course is a "must attend" for you.

If you are a first responder, this course will give you valuable insights in how to respond yourself if you are off-duty.

Fully applicable for Civilians, Fire Fighters, LEO, and EMS.

If you are someone who thinks it is as easy as just shooting the bad guy, you definitely need to come to this course.

If you think you will always get shot by the police in this situation, you definitely need to come to this course.

    Equipment Required:

No live fire ammunition required. All force-on-force equipment will be provided

    About This Course:

Although the most probable engagement distance in the real world will be under 25 yards, there are times when probable isn’t actual.  It could be a hostage situation from an extended distance, it could be an active shooter down a long hallway, or it could be someone outside using cover to prevent you from closing the distance.

This course is designed to allow you to take accurate shots from 25 – 100 yards using a standard setup AR with iron sights, red dot, or holographic setup.  It is not a precision rifle course where you will be using magnified optics.

    Course Topics:

    • Stability positions and how to properly utilize them
    • Movement between various ranges
    • Point of aim versus point of impact at various ranges

    • Sling (1, 2, or 3 point)
    • Knee/Elbow pads are recommended but not required

All participants should bring ear and eye protection and dress appropriately for the weather.
